EO-85/EO-86 Computer Controlled Spectrophotometer

In a compact package requiring no optical adjustments, the instrument graphically displays the relative intensity of a light source as function of wavelength. The incoming radiation is dispersed by a 700 lines/mm holographic grating. The first order spectrum is focused onto a high resolution linear CCD detector. The detector is controlled and read out by an internal 16 bit microprocessor. After exposure, the analog video signal is digitized by a 10 bit A to D converter and sent to the controlling computer. The optical components are ruggedly mounted on a stiff base plate, aligned and focused during assembly so that no user adjustments are required. The instrument has a wavelength range from 400 to 800 nm, and the spectrum is available on the screen a few seconds after exposure.
The wavelength scale can be expanded to examine details of spectral lines. Several curves can be displayed at a time, up to five with the Macintosh version. The cursor position in the Macintosh version reads out the wavelength and intensity of transmission from the screen plot.
