This new Geiger Computer Interface connects the Geiger Tube to the USB connector on a computer. It draws its power from the USB connector as well as transmitting data. This results in several benefits. There are no extra line cords, so setup is faster and simpler. The rate at which data can be handled is much higher than is possible through the computers serial port. Its current drain is modest so that it will run with a laptop computer without reducing its battery charge significantly. The high voltage can be adjusted to measure the plateau of the Geiger Tube. The tube supply voltage is displayed on the computer screen. Radioactivity is indicated by a flashing light on the front panel and an audible chirp. The program records the count in a setable fixed time period. The count rate can be displayed as a histogram and compared to a Poisson plot on the screen. The count is stored in a data file which can be exported to a spread sheet program for later analysis. The Interface is supplied with software for Windows on a CD Rom. |
